- [S16] Obituary.
April 25, 1919 - March 22, 2011
Virgil Paul Shannon, 91, of Hixson, stepped out into eternity to meet his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ at 3:00 a.m. on Tuesday morning, March 22, 2011 surrounded by his family. Paul was born on April 25, 1919 in Daisy, Tennessee. Preceding him in death were his parents, John A. and Pearl Shannon and brothers, Carl Shannon and Leroy Shannon. He was a member of Calvary Baptist Church of Red Bank. He attended school in the old Daisy High School and graduated in the last class before the new Soddy Daisy High School was built. A veteran of the World War II, he served in the U.S. Army in Germany. Paul was a fifty year member and a past master of the Soddy Masonic Lodge #418 F.&A.M. He drove Bus #60 for the Hamilton County Schools for over 20 years in the Soddy area. This will be the first year in over forty years he has not been able to have a garden, which he loved so much. Springtime was his favorite time of the year. He was one of the best fathers and the hardest working man that I have ever known and he will be surely missed by his family.
Survivors include his loving and devoted wife, Dorothy Shannon; son, Paul Gene (Barbara) Shannon; daughters, Sharon (Bobby) Hodson, Rhonda (Scott) Lowe, Donna (Robert) Lewis, Amy Weems and Saralyn (Don) Penney; grandchildren, Susan (Keith) Hatfield, Karla Corbin, Bryan Corbin, Alan Lowe (Candace Hensley), Jake (Bayleigh) Lowe, Mara Hodson, Rob (Megan) Lewis, Stacie Hawk, Lindsey Penney, Andy (Stephanie) Penney and a very special little granddaughter Laney Weems who he loved so much along with several great grandchildren.
Services will be held on Thursday, March 24, 2011 at 1:00 p.m. in the funeral home chapel with Brothers Steve Roberson, Ron Bishop and Dwight Martin officiating. Burial will follow at Hamilton Memorial Gardens with Andy Penney, Keith Hatfield, Bryan Corbin, Alan Lowe, Jake Lowe and Rob Lewis. Visitation is Wednesday from 4:00 to 9:00 p.m. and Thursday from 11:00 to 1:00 p.m. at the funeral home. The family would like to thank Dr. Hicks and the second floor staff and nurses at the Memorial North Park Hospital for their love and care in our time of sorrow.
Arrangements are by Williamson & Sons Funeral Home, 8852 Dayton Pike Soddy-Daisy, TN 37379.
