Elmer Welch
Elmer Eugene Welch, 83, of Flat Top Mountain, passed away at home on Sunday, August 29, 2010. He was born February 15, 1927, to the late Frankie and Newt Welch. He was a member of Flat Top Independent Church for over 60 years, a veteran of the U.S. Navy, a member of Soddy Mason Lodge # 418 for over 50 years and a retired boilermaker from Combustion Engineering after 32 years of service. He was preceded in death by his wife of 59 years, Birdie Lee Welch; one sister, Virginia Welch; one granddaughter, Cindy Clift; one great granddaughter, Abigail Worley.
He is survived by three sons, Robert (Lorraine) Clift of Trenton, GA, Homer (Delores) Welch of Flat Top Mountain and Eugene (Janice) Welch of Soddy Daisy; four daughters, Pat (Terry) Healey of Flat Top Mountain, Mary (Alan) Swaney of Ringgold, GA, Faynette (Anthony) Grayson of Whitwell and Marlene (Hargus) Reed of Dayton, TN; 10 grandchildren, 13 great grandchildren and 3 great great grandchildren; one sister, Reba (Elmer) Hughes of Flat Top Mountain, two brothers, L.C. (Martha Dean) Welch of Soddy Daisy, Melvin (Betsy) Welch of Flat Top Mountain along with several nieces and nephews.
Services will be Tuesday, August 31, 2010 at 3:00 p.m. in the funeral home chapel with Rev. Mark Harwood and Rev. Phil Shellabarger officiating. Burial will follow at Bowman Cemetery. Visitation is Monday from 2:00 to 9:00 p.m. and after 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday at the funeral home.
