Brooxie Durham Smith, 92, of Soddy-Daisy passed away Wednesday, March 28, 2012 at her home surrounded by her family and friends. She was born May 26, 1919 to the late Sam and Hattie Chandler. She was of the Church of God Faith and attended Christ Family Church. She was a caring and loving person who never met a stranger. She worked for The Head Start Program in the North Hamilton County Area for many years, sold Avon, set with elderly disabled people and cleaned houses until she was 85 years old. She was preceded in death by her husbands, Kelso Durham, and Matt Smith, son, Jimmy Durham, sisters, Mary Lou Burke, Estill Newbill, son-in-law, David Johnson, step-daughters, Joy Wright, Bea Moses, step-son, Norman Smith.
She is survived by her son, Billy (Dianne) Durham, daughter, Theresa Johnson, brother, Eli Chandler, grandchildren, Charla (Tim) Hampton, Robin (Richard) Jackson, Jason (Lori) Durham, John (Blanca) Johnson, Phoebe (Michael) Cox, Alesha (Dustin) Williams, Kristen O’Dell, Craig Durham, 21 great-grandchildren, 7 great-great-grandchildren, many nieces and nephews, very dear and special friends, Sheila Wilcoxon, Betty Hankins, Bessie Jones.
Funeral service will be 2:00 P.M. Friday in the funeral home chapel with Bishop Calvin Nunley and Chaplain Dewayne Renfro officiating. Interment will follow the service at Hamilton Memorial Gardens. Family will receive friends from 2-9 P.M. Thursday at the funeral home. The family would like to give a special thanks to Hospice of Chattanooga for all their loving care.
