Ronald E. “Ronnie” Johnson, 66, of Soddy-Daisy, TN, passed away Tuesday, December 22, 2009 at his home. Born May 20, 1943 in Chattanooga, he was the son of the late C.D. and Sarah Johnson. Also preceding him in death were brothers, C.D. Johnson, Jr. and Larry Winston Johnson.
Ronnie spent forty years of his life to his sport of fishing and the advancement of the love of fishing to the youth of America. He was a strong believer that the sport of fishing would help the youth become meaningful adults. Ronnie and his wife, Rita, were founders and owners for over twenty seven years of the magazine “The Tennessee Outdoorsmen News”. He also was the owner and operator of the Tennessee Guide Service, the first full licensed guide service in Chattanooga.
Survivors are his wife of 42 years, Rita J. Johnson; daughter and son, Pamela and Randall Massingill; daughter, Allison (Bobby) Jackson; son, John (Kelsey) Mahoney, only granddaughter, Amanda (John) Smith, Jr.; grandsons, Taylor and Austin Massingill; great grandsons, Cameron Smith and Michael Mahoney.
Ronnie loved his family dearly and was so proud of all of their accomplishments.
Funeral services will be Sunday, December 27, 2009 at 2:00 p.m. in the funeral home chapel with Rev. Darrell Davenport officiating. Active pallbearers will be John Swallows, Richard Craig, Jerry Coffman, Chris Grizzle, Patrick Brumlow, Mark Mauldin, John Nichols, Joseph Nichols, Paul Nichols, Jim Varner and Steve Russo. Honorary pallbearers will be Butch May, Tom Jolley, Gabby Williamson, Chuck Williamson, Jimmy Williamson, John Williamson, David Smith and Mike Payne. Interment will follow at Hamilton Memorial Gardens. Visitation is Saturday, December 26, 2009 from 2:00 to 4:00 and 6:00 to 9:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
