Billy Ray Pelfrey of Hixson passed peacefully at his home surrounded by family, Tuesday, June 7, 2016, just short of his eightieth birthday. Born in Rockwood, Tennessee on June 29, 1936 to James Haskell and Marie Gravitt Pelfrey, the family later moved to Hixson where Billy spent his life. He was a member of Middle Valley Baptist Church and a graduate of Soddy Daisy High School. Billy was the lead carpenter in the In House Construction Department of Erlanger Hospital where he retired after seventeen years.
Billy was a devoted husband to his wife, Joyce and together they were inseparable for over sixty years. He was a hard-working, loving man with a gentle manner. His greatest passion was his family and he was loved by all who knew him.
He was preceded in death by his parents and siblings; Barbara Isham, Kenneth Pelfrey and Jerry Pelfrey.
Survivors include his wife, Joyce Pelfrey; sons Greg (Michelle) Pelfrey; Jeff (Penny) Pelfrey all of Hixson; granddaughters Caitlyn, Abbi, and Jenna Pelfrey of Hixson.
Visitation will be Thursday evening from 4-8 PM at the funeral home. Services will be on Friday, June 10th at 11 AM in Chapel of Williamson & Sons Funeral Home with Jerry Pelfrey, Jr. officiating. Burial will follow at Hamilton Memorial Gardens on Hwy 153. Pallbearers will be Paul Brock, Jr, Brian Pelfrey, Ronnie Gravitt, Donnie Gravitt, Jeff Gibson and Stan Miles. Honorary pallbearers will be the members of Erlanger In House Construction.
