- [S16] Obituary.
August 31, 1948 - September 6, 2014
Raymond Glenn Aslinger, 66, passed away suddenly Saturday, September 6, 2014. He loved wood-working, cooking, and southern gospel music. He took his volunteering very seriously, whether it be with the fire department, school issues or “politic’n”, but most of all, he loved his family and being a PawPaw. Many young men have been influenced to pursue fire service because of his leadership. He was a man of few words, but when he spoke, it paid to listen. Glenn was a 1966 graduate of Sale Creek High School and worked with his Dad as a carpenter before joining the Alabama National Guard and then transferring to the Tennessee National Guard, where he received his medical training as a medic. He then worked for the Chattanooga Fire Department as a paramedic until 1981 when he went to work at Tennessee Valley Authority as a fire training officer. He remained there until his early retirement in 1998. Following that, he worked as a fire investigator with Technifire Services until his retirement last year.
Glenn was a founding member of the Sale Creek Volunteer Fire and Rescue and gave more than 43 years of service to the Sale Creek community and beyond. He proudly served as the chief of the department for 22 years before retiring in 2010. He was currently serving as the chairman of the board of directors and worked tirelessly to help research, design, and facilitate the future Sale Creek Volunteer Fire and Rescue Headquarters Station. Glenn was also the original Chief of the Hamilton County Hazardous Materials Team. Additionally, he served as a member of the architectural selection committee for Sale Creek School in 2001 and 2014.
He was preceded in death by his father, Archie Raymond Aslinger, and is survived by his loving wife of 45 years, Patti Coulter Aslinger; his daughters, Sarah (Mike) Graham and Lanita (Eric) Copas; grandchildren Logan, Savannah, Justin, Joshua, Ryder, and baby Asa, due in December; his mother, Ruth Dukes Aslinger; sisters Billie (Bill) Holland, Beverly Hutcheson, and Tina Aslinger; brothers Tim (Donna) Aslinger, Doyle Aslinger, and Jim (Elizabeth) Aslinger; and several loving nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you make donations in his grandson Ryder’s honor to the International FoxG1 Foundation, 6506 Hillcock Lane, Pearland, TX 77584 or online at http://foxg1.com/donate.html
The funeral service will be 1:00 P.M. Tuesday at Williamson & Sons Funeral Home with Pastor Rocky Bradford officiating. Burial will follow in Rhea Memory Gardens. Visitation is 4:00 P.M. to 9:00 P.M. Monday at the funeral home. Members of the Sale Creek Volunteer Fire Department will be serving as pallbearers.
