Eleanor Jane Newman Ross, age 89 of Loudon passed away Saturday, November 26, 2011. Mrs. Ross was a member of Loudon United Methodist Church, the Aldersgate Sunday School Class and a member at large of the Deborah Circle. She attended Tennessee Wesleyan College and graduated from the University of Tennessee in Knoxville with a BS in Elementary Education. Mrs. Ross went on to help educate hundreds of youngsters during her 38-year tenure with the Loudon County School System, a career she dearly loved. She was a member of the Retired Teachers Association and the National Education Association. A talented seamstress, she made many beautiful dresses as well as designing and making draperies, valances and pillows to adorn the home. She had a green thumb and enjoyed gardening and tending her beautiful flowers. She was a true "Southern" lady with a sweet and gentle spirit who loved and was loved by many. She was preceded in death by her parents, Homer Arnold and Nettie Jane (Anes) Newman and her beloved husband, Albert Ross. Survivors include her daughters and sons in-law, Judith Jane and Homer Allen Millsaps, Philadelphia, Alyce Ann and David Hinkle, Knoxville; grandchildren and spouses, Jane and Bill Smith, Ross and Amy Millsaps, Mark and Carla Millsaps, Connor Hinkle, Carly Hinkle; great grandchildren, Katie Smith, Tyler and Caroline Millsaps, Evan, Marlee and Ashton Millsaps; brothers and sister in-law, Homer Newman, Roanoke, VA, John R. and Carrie Newman, Loudon, several nieces and nephews. Services honoring and remembering Mrs. Ross will be held 7:00 PM Monday, Nov. 28th, McGill-Karnes Chapel with Rev. Walt Simmerman and Rev. Brian Courtney officiating. Interment 11:00 AM Tuesday in Steekee Cemetery. Contributions in memory of Mrs. Ross may be made to the Loudon United Methodist Church, P.O. Box 342, Loudon, TN 37774. The family will receive friends 5:00 – 7:00 PM Monday prior to the service at McGill-Karnes Funeral Home, Loudon.
