Anne Norvell
Anne Gayle Novell passed peacefully on Thursday, Oct. 23, 2008.
She was born April 11, 1940.
She was preceded in death by mother, Jessie Armistead Clift; father, Richard Norvell Sr.; stepfather, Rhoton P. Clift, of Chattanooga; sister, Margaret Norvell Spurrier; and brother, William E. Norvell II.
Survived by brother, Richard Norvell; nieces, Margaret Parker Norvell, Elizabeth Norvell Hackett, Irene Spurrier Pendergrast, of Houston, Texas; Lucia Spurrier Drier, Emme Norvell Templeton; nephew, Richard Manning Norvell, of Pensacola, Fla.; several great-nieces and great-nephews, cousins, Polly Armistead Cummins, Thomas C. Keeling III, Wallace, N.C., Steven Buckner Armistead, George Harrison Armistead III, Robert Hunter Frierson Armistead, Eve Armistead Minshall, Little Rock, Ark., Louise Armistead Keeling, Leonard H. Armistead III, Devereux Cummins Pollock, Elizabeth Armistead Cummins, Richard Fenner Cummins Jr., James H. Armistead III, Valeria Armistead Walker, New York, Gayle Dearborn Vance, Virginia M. Dearborn, Charles Steven Stites and others.
A graduate of Bright School, Girls Preparatory School of Chattanooga, Mount Vernon College of Washington, D.C., and an alumnus of the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga. A member of the Junior League of Nashville and the Colonial Dames of America in Tennessee, The Centennial Club, member of the English Speaking Union, Alliance Francais and a member of St. George’s Episcopal Church. Her work experience included First Lutheran Church in Chattanooga, the Evelyn Anderson Galleries and the American Red Cross.
Graveside services will be at 11 a.m. CDT Monday, Oct. 27, 2008, at Mount Hope Cemetery, Franklin, Tenn., with the Rev. Tim Jones officiating.
Pallbearers William M. Ward Jr., F. Gordon Pollock, George Harrison Armistead III, Steven Buckner Armistead, Richard Fenner Cummins Jr., Timothy Callender Keeling and Mark Woolwine.
