  [S16] Obituary. June 14, 1930 - December 6, 2011 E.C. “Jack” Deakins, Jr., 81, of Hixson passed away Tuesday, December 6, 2011 at a local hospital. He retired from the U.S. Air Force after 22 years of honorable service. He was a member of the VFW Post 4848, the American Legion Post 95, the Hixson Masonic Lodge. He also retired from Quaker Oats. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Sally Jane Deakins, parents, Carl and Phyllis Deakins, brothers, Bob and George Deakins, sister, Martha Deakins. He is survived by his wife, Freddie Deakins, sons, Mike (Tanya) Deakins, Steve (Susan) Deakins, Keith Deakins, daughter, Barbara (Dennis) Dimopoulos, brothers, Dan Deakins, Don Deakins, sister, Becky Minter, grandchildren, Valerie, Stephanie, Mark, Rachael, Mackenzie, Samantha, Sarah, several nieces and nephews, special friends-Cherry Branch Hunting Club. Graveside service will be 1:00 P.M. EST Saturday at Condra Cemetery with the Rev. Lester Norton officiating with full military honors. Family will receive friends from 5-8 P.M. Friday at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers those who wish may make contributions to the Wounded Warrior Project, 4899 Belford Rd., suite 300; Jacksonville, FL. 32256.
