Michael S. Chissom

Statesboro - Michael Scott Chissom, 3, the son of Dr. and Mrs. BradChissom of Statesboro, died yesterday at his home after a long illness.Surviving besides the parents are a brother, Russell Chissom ofStatesboro; maternal grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. W. R. Penney of St.Petersburg, Florida; and paternal grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. G. A.Chissom of Eustis, Florida.
Graveside services will be held tomorrow at 2 p.m. at EastsideCemetery. Remembrances may be sent to Memorial Medical Center TumorClinic in Savannah in care of Mrs. Davis. Barnes Funeral Home ofStatesboro is in charge.

Son Born to Mr. and Mrs. Gordon Chissom
Announcements were received here Wednesday of the birth of a son toMr. and Mrs. Gordon Chissom, the youngster arriving at the Englewoodhospital Wednesday morning, February 7th. The mother is the formerGenene Scott, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. George Scott of this city. Sheformerly was employed as deputy in the county recorder's office.
Mr. Chissom is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Roy Chissom of Chicago andresided in Rensselaer up until a few months ago. Mr. Chissom iswell-known to Rensselaer sports fans, playing on the independentbasketball teams in Rensselaer and also played with the Rinky Dinkssoftball team as a pitcher.

Son Born Today To Mr and Mrs. Gordon Chissom
A son was born to Mr. and Mrs. Gordon A. Chissom of Chicago atEnglewood hospital in that city this Wednesday forenoon, February 7. Heis Mr. and Mrs. Chissom's first born and from all reports is a mightyfine boy. The young man was named Bradon Scott. His mother is theformer Miss Genene Scott, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. George Scott of thiscity. Both she and the youngster are getting along nicely. Mr. Chissomis a son of Mr. and Mrs. Roy Chissom of Chicago.
Grandfather Scott and Mrs. Scott are very, very proud and happy overthe arrival of the little chap, who is their first grandchild. Theformer is doing a great deal of strutting.

Brad graduated from the University of Florida in 1956 with a BS inRecreation and from Florida State University in 1957 with an MS inRecreation. He was Superintendent of Recreation for Jesup and WayneCounty, Georgia, taught high school math and coached in Atlanta andCairo, Georgia. He completed his Ed. D in Educational Research in 1969at Florida State University and was on the faculties of Georgia SouthernCollege (now University), Texas A&M University, and the University ofAlabama. He retired in 1996.

Pvt. Wilburn R. Penney has returned to Kennedy General Hospital atMemphis after spending a 30-day furlough with his wife and daughter atSoddy. He recently returned from the European theater where he servedwith an armored division in France, Belgium and Germany.

TUSCALOOSA -- Wilburn Russell Penney, 84, 1745 Jack Warner Parkway,died September 24, 2000 at DCH Regional Medical Center. Services will beat Sunset Chapel on Tuesday at 2 p.m. with Vial Fountenot officiating.Burial will follow in Sunset Memorial Park. Visitation will be one hourprior to services. Sunset Funeral Home is directing
Survivors include his wife, Rachel Penney; daughter Arlene Chissom(Brad); two grandchildren, Russ Chissom (Kristy) and Penney Chissom(Chris) Davis.
Mr. Penney was born in Tennessee. He served in the Battle of theBulge in WWII in U. S. Army. He moved to St. Petersburg, Florida in 1952and came to Tuscaloosa in 1996.

Survivors include his wife,Rachel Penney; and a daughter, Arlene Chissom; and two grandchildren.The funeral will be at 2 p.m. today at Sunset Funeral Home, in Northport,Alabama, with Vial Fontenot officiating. Burial will be one hour priorto the service at the funeral home. Burial will be in Sunset MemorialPark.

Thomas Penney, aged 74, died at his home here after an illness of a fewdays. The funeral services were held yesterday afternoon at 2 o'clock inthe Methodist Episcopal Church, conducted by the Reverend Carl Nichols,pastor of Soddy Church, and the Reverend J. L. Chaney of Chattanooga.Interment took place in the family burying ground near Soddy. He issurvived by his widow and eleven children and several brothers andsisters.

Thomas married Sophronia G. Kearns on 29 Jan 1903. Mrs. Wilkie Henry Jenkins, 79, of Soddy, Tennessee, died in aChattanooga hospital early Wednesday morning. She was the daughter ofthe late Ezekiel and Rachel Henry, pioneer settlers of old James County.She had been a resident of Soddy for the past 50 years and was the widowof Emanuel A. Jenkins. She was a member of the Oak Street Baptist Churchand Ladies Bible Class for many years.
Survivors are two daughters, Mrs. Mary Roberts, Soddy and Mrs.Wilburn Penney, St. Petersburg,
Florida; a brother, Talmadge Henry, Graysville, Tennessee; andgranddaughters Joyce, Judy and Joan Roberts, all of Soddy, and ArlenePenney, Decatur, Georgia.
Funeral services will be held Friday at 2 p.m. from the Oak StreetBaptist Church conducted by the Reverends Jim Posner and William Sisk.Interment in Varner Cemetery.
