Fern Simmons Slater, 90, of Soddy-Daisy, went home to be with the Lord, Sunday, September 8, 2013. She was a Sunday School Teacher of children for many years at Mile Straight Baptist Church where she was a member.
She was preceded in death by her husband of seventy one years, Alfred T. Slater, parents, Carl and Hazel Simmons and a sister, Faye Johnson.
She is survived by her three sons and daughters-in-law, Al & Jane Slater, Carl & Sarah Slater and Steve & Leisa Slater; grandchildren, Dale, Greg, Tanya, Gabe, Jeremy, Tiffany and Joel; sisters, Dot Broome and Polly Steave; twelve great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews and very special and caring friends, Richard and Brenda Craig.
The funeral service will be held 11:00 A.M. Wednesday, September 11, 2013 at Williamson & Sons Funeral Home with Dr. Al Goss and Dr. Tom Goss officiating. Interment will follow in Chattanooga National Cemetery. Visitation is 5:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M. Tuesday, September 10, 2013.
Fern was a member of the Golden Agers at Mile Straight Baptist Church and they will be serving as honorary pallbearers.
