Lillie was the daughter of Francis Marion "Jack" Peacock and Martha Louise Jarrett/Peacock. She was born in South Pittsburg, Marion County, Tennessee She lived there all of her growing up years and for a few years after she married.
She was a wonderful Grandmother. I use to love to sit in the swing on her front porch with her. I would hug her arms. She had very chubby arms and they always felt so good to me. She would sing songs to us and read us stories. She was a good cook. She loved the Lord with all her heart and was the kind of Christian we all should be.
She died in Atlanta, DeKalb County, Georgia. She was 99 years and 6 weeks of age. She died of pneumonia. She was still very mentally alert and active, even at 99 years old.
My Grandmother still loved to go visit in South Pittsburg, Marion County, Tennessee, where she grew up. I still go there to visit several relatives who are in their 90's and to visit the graves of my relatives who have gone on before.
My Grandmother loved to embroider tablecloths, pillow cases, etc. She would iron on the patterns, then embroider over the blue lines. She also canned a good bit of food that they used over the winter. My Grandfather loved to hunt and they ate the meat that he brought home from his hunts.
Note: She was married to Wm. Luther Smith, Sr. for 58 years until his death. Later she married Sam McGukin - they had five good years together until his death. Lillie and Luther had 5 children. Their oldest daughter, Avon, still survives. (She has now passed away at almost 101 years of age. She died July 2019))
She turns 102 years old on November 19, 2019.
Lillie was my maternal grandmother.
