On March 14, 2016, at 11:36 p.m., after a year long battle with cancer, The Lord Jesus Christ called Kenneth J. Heiss, of Soddy-Daisy, Tenn., to his heavenly home. Kenneth was born in Chattanooga on Sept. 3, 1951. He was married on Nov. 24, 1972, at Flat Top Independent Church to his loving wife of 44 years, Joy Levengood Heiss. He graduated from Soddy-Daisy High School in 1969. Kenneth worked at E.I. Dupont for 12 years before he transferred to Savannah River Site in Aiken, S.C., where he worked for 22 years. Kenneth retired from the Savannah River Site at age 54 in 2005. He then returned to his first most loved home of Flat Top Mountain. Kenneth became a Christian at age 25, when he surrendered his sin to the saving grace of Jesus Christ. He worked each day to spread the gospel of Jesus to as many people as he could. In 1989, he was ordained a Deacon at Spring Branch Baptist Church in Windsor, South Carolina. In 1999, Kenneth was licensed to be a minister, also at Spring Branch Baptist Church. Kenneth is survived by his wife, Joy Levengood Heiss; son, Kenneth Allen (Jamie) Heiss; daughter, Kathy (Charles) Culver; four grandchildren, Payton Brooke Heiss, Remington Blake Heiss, Ty Ellis Culver and Ayden Grant Culver; siblings, Janice Francisco, Denise Heiss, Sandra (John) Flerl and Paul (Martina) Heiss; brother-in-law, Milford Bowman, Jr.; several nieces; nephews; great nieces; and great nephews. Kenneth was preceded in death by his parents, Ellis and Dora (Reed) Heiss; sister, Stevetta Heiss Bowman; and brother-in-law, Marvin Francisco. Graveside services will be held on Thursday, March 17, 2016, at 11 a.m. at Bowman Cemetery, with Brother Rocky Bradford officiating. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Tennessee Oncology, Medical Park II, 2200 E. 3rd Street, Suite 100, Chattanooga, TN 37404 or Hospice of Chattanooga Foundation, P.O.
