George Albert Morgan, 94, passed away Thursday, August 8, 2013 at his home in Soddy-Daisy. Albert was the youngest of nine siblings of parents, George and Mary Morgan of Dayton, Tennessee, all of whom predecease him. His wife Margaret L. Morgan, daughter-in-law, Angie Morgan and two great-great-grandchildren also preceded him in death.
Albert was one of the “greatest generation”. He served in the United States Army from 1942-1945, participating in the campaigns in Italy, France and Germany. He was awarded three bronze stars for his courage. After the war, Albert drove, for twenty five years, and was part owner of Cherokee Bus Lines from Soddy to Chattanooga. He was then a truck driver for Chemical Leamon until his retirement in 1984. After his retirement, he and his wife of seventy two years, Margaret, traveled the U.S. and made friends for more than twenty years. They spent most winters in Hawaii or Florida.
Albert is survived by his six sons, Benny (Cheryl), Dennis (Dorothy), Johnny, Cecil (Judy), George (Lynne) and Mitchell Morgan all of Soddy-Daisy and Hixson; thirteen grandchildren who lovingly called him Papaw; sixteen great-grandchildren and four great-great-grandchildren.
Visitation is 5:00 to 9:00 P.M. Friday; 5:00 to 9:00 P. M. Saturday; and after 12:00 P.M. Sunday at the funeral home. Funeral services will be 2:00 P.M. Sunday, August 11, 2013 at Williamson & Sons Funeral Home with Reverend Mike Manning officiating. Burial will follow in Buttram Cemetery in Dayton, Tennessee with Military Honors.
