- [S16] Obituary.
September 21, 1921 - October 18, 2015
Earl Leander Frazier, 94, of Soddy Daisy, died Sunday morning, October 18. His beloved wife, Almeda McRee Frazier, predeceased him by two years and eleven months.
Earl Lee was born in Mount Hope, Alabama, on September 21, 1921, the son of the Reverend Samuel G. Frazier, a Presbyterian minister and Mary Russia Cooper Frazier. The family ultimately settled in Soddy in 1935, and with the exception of his service in the Army Air Corps during World War II, Earl Lee spent the balance of his life in Soddy, Tennessee. His family has resided in Tennessee since the late 1700's.
After graduating from the old Soddy High School, Mr. Frazier worked in retail sales prior to joining the U.S Army Air Corps. He was a lifelong entrepreneur, working first as a wholesaler of textile goods, next as the proprietor of a five and ten cent store, a grocery store, and later as the owner of Frazier's Furniture and Appliance Store. The last 20+ years of his career were spent as an agent for Shelter Insurance Company.
Retirement brought years of volunteering for various charitable organizations, travel, and no small measure of adventures with the love of his life, Almeda.
Earl Lee was for most of his life, and as of his passing, a member of Soddy Presbyterian Church, although he has been a faithful communicant of Soddy United Methodist Church for many years. He was a charter member of the Soddy Lions Club, and was recently recognized for seventy years of service. He was also a member of the Masons for more than half a century.
Earl Lee is survived by his wife’s dear cousin, Ernestine Eldridge, who was truly a sister to him; his niece Elizabeth Walker Heckman, nephews Samuel Gillespie Frazier and Samuel Hugh Frazier. He is also survived by his great nieces and a great nephew.
In addition to his wife, Mr. Frazier was preceded in death by his sister May Belle Frazier Walker and her Husband Kenneth Walker; brothers Samuel Gillespie Frazier and wife Ruth Frazier; Cooper Lacewell Frazier and wife Ora Mae Frazier.
Earl Lee was a natural gentleman and a good man of deep faith; he enjoyed life and exemplified “a life well-lived."
The family will receive friends at Williamson & Sons Funeral Home in Soddy-Daisy from 4:00 pm to 6:00 pm Tuesday, October 20, 2015. The funeral service will be held at Soddy United Methodist Church, 255 Depot Street, Soddy Daisy, at 11:00 am on Wednesday, October 21, 2015, with interment to follow at Soddy Presbyterian Cemetery.
The family wishes to thank the caring staff of Morning Pointe Assisted Living in Hixson, as well as Avalon Hospice and Preferred Care at Home.
