February 22, 1917 - February 25, 2011
Frank Nelson Elsea, 94, of Sale Creek, went to be with the Lord on Friday, February 25, 2011 in his home surrounded by loved ones. Mr. Elsea was a lifelong resident of Sale Creek where he enjoyed spending time with his family, growing gardens and raising cattle. He was a World War II veteran where he served on the U.S.S. Bronstein DE-189 from its commission to its decommission. He received a Presidential Citation for exceptionally meritorious achievement in the performance of outstanding combat service against enemy forces in the Atlantic Ocean Area from February 29 to March 17, 1944. He was a former machinist at Simplicity, CMI and retired from Herman Grant Company.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Jack V. and Mattye Elsea, brother, Jack V. Jr., sister, Dorthy Elsea Burton and niece, Joann Cunningham.
He is survived by his loving wife of 70 years, Ruth Rose Elsea; sons, Jim (Brenda) Elsea and Doyle (Connie) Elsea; niece, Marty (Hoyal) Holloway; grandchildren, Heather (Justin) Elsea-Jones, Beth (Jeremy) Lewis and Seth Elsea along with 3 great granddaughters and several great nieces and great nephews.
Services will be held at on Tuesday, March 1, 2011 at 12:30 p.m. in the funeral home chapel with Rev. David Cunningham officiating. Burial will follow with military honors at National Cemetery. Visitation is Monday from 5:00 to 9:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
