James E. “Jim” Ottinger, 72, of Sale Creek, passed away on Sunday, January 5, 2014 at his residence. Born on Flat Top Mountain, he lived in Soddy-Daisy and Sale Creek all his life. Jim was a member of Wayside Baptist Church. He served his country in the Tennessee National Guard and the U.S. Army. Jim retired from Sequoyah Nuclear Plant in 1992 after 18 years of service. He liked to “tinker”. Jim was preceded in death by his parents, Paul and Ruth Ottinger.
Survivors include his wife of 48 years, Loraine Ottinger; daughters, Karen (Mickey, Jr.) Gunter and Brenda Ottinger; brother, Donny (Lena) Ottinger; sisters, Pat Milard, Bobbie Gibson, Della (Gary) Soloman and Debbie (Ron) Capps; grandchildren, James Eugene “Jimmy” (Lisa) Smith, Amanda “Kristen” Smith and James “Jamie” Nichols; step-grandson, Cody Gunter; great grandchild, Brenon James Smith and several nieces and nephews.
Services will be held on Wednesday, January 8, 2014 at 2:00 p.m. in the funeral home chapel with Rev. Bill Hall and Rev. Steve James officiating. Burial will follow at Standifer Cemetery. Visitation is Tuesday from 4:00 to 9:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
