Julius “J.J.” Hatfield
Julius Jackson “J.J.” Hatfield, 96, of Soddy-Daisy, TN, passed away peacefully on Sunday, August 1, 2010 at his residence after a long illness. He was a lifelong resident of Soddy-Daisy and a member of the Gideon’s Sunday School Class at Daisy Church of God where he was a member for many years. He served in the US Navy on the USS Yosemite in the Pacific during WWII, honorably discharged December 23, 1945. He retired in 1973 from IBIW Local 704 after serving many years as business representative. He was preceded in death by his devoted and loving wife of 74 years, Marie Chancey Hatfield who passed away June 28, 2009; his parents; Miller and Ethel Hatfield; brother, Norman Hatfield; sister, Betty Vickery; and daughter, Patsy Ruth.
He is survived by his sons; Wade (Bettye) Hatfield of Soddy- Daisy, Leland (Ann) Hatfield of Morrison, TN; brother, Morris (Irene) Hatfield of Soddy-Daisy; granddaughter, Cyndee (Rich) Koenig of Augusta, GA; grandson, Shane (Shannon) Hatfield of Soddy-Daisy; great-grandsons, Trey Koenig, and Briston Hatfield; great-granddaughters, Autumn and Amber Hatfield; and several nieces and nephews.
The family wishes to thank Dr. Mike Prostko, Julie Brown, Katrice Cox, Olivia Gouldette and Helen Armstrong of Amedisys Hospice for the special attention they gave him. Very special thanks to caregivers Patricia Smith and Sherry Barnes whose love and wonderful care was an enormous help and source of happiness for him.
The funeral service will be at 11:00 am, Wednesday, August 4, in the funeral home chapel with Pastor Estil Sanders officiating. Pallbearers will be Rich Koenig, Trey Koenig, Tommy Lewis, Burt Holland, Eldon Johnson, and Shane Hatfield. The Gideon’s Sunday School Class will be honorary pallbearers. Interment will follow in Hamilton Memorial Gardens with Military Honors. The family will receive friends from 4:00 until 9:00 Tuesday, August 3.
