Sarah-Jane Mayberry
Sarah Jane Mayberry, 89, of Chattanooga, died on Saturday, Feb. 9, 2008, at her residence.
She was the daughter of the late George W. and Nancy Penney. Sarah Jane was a member of Red Bank Baptist Church since 1952 and was very active as a former Sunday school outreach leader, ministry chairman, group leader, tape ministry, Prime Time Choir Group leader, Prime Time Senior Adults and nursing home ministry. Sarah loved to minister to others and was a Red Cross volunteer for over 26 years at Parkridge Hospital. She received the Frist Humanitarian Award and Volunteer of the Year in 1999.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 55 years, James Mayberry; and her brother, John L. Penney.
She was a loving mother to her three daughters, Jimmie Ruth (Bob) Troughton, Birmingham, Ala., Judy (Jim) Dillard, Houston, Texas, and Janice (Howard) Moore, Canton, Ga. She had four grandchildren, Greg (Michelle) Dillard, Penney (Brian) Dench, Susan (John) McNellis and Michele (Bryan) Williamson; and 12 great-grandchildren. She also is survived by her sister, Bertie Clift, Soddy-Daisy.
Funeral services will be held at 2:30 p.m. Monday in the funeral home chapel with Dr. Fred Steelman, the Rev. Bert Jones and Bill Harvey officiating with the music being provided by Nancy Teague and Pam Harvey.
Interment will follow in Hamilton Memorial Gardens with Greg Dillard, Brian Dench, John McNellis, Bryan Williamson, Bobby and Larry Clift serving as pallbearers.
Memorial contributions can be made to the Red Bank Baptist Church library, or Hospice of Chattanooga.
