MARIETTA, GA - Oakey Joe Crooks, 74, went to heaven, Friday, September 10, 2010.
He was born in Soddy-Daisy, TN on June 28, 1936.
Mr. Crooks graduated from Soddy-Daisy High School and received a Bachelors of Science Degree in Engineering in 1957 from the University of Tennessee in Chattanooga.
He retired from Lockheed Aeronautical Systems Company in 1995 where he was employed as a Dynamics Engineer for 38 years.
He enjoyed genealogy, fishing, hunting, gardening, reading, and delighted in spending time with family and friends. He was a devoted husband to his loving wife, Charlotte Ann Lewis, for 54 years in December and a devoted father to his five children. He dedicated his life to God. He was a charter member of LaBelle Heights Baptist Church. He and his wife are currently devoted members of Macland Baptist Church.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Ruby Hunt Crookshanks; father, James Madison Crooks and beloved granddaughter, Kelly Michelle Crowder Davis.
He is survived by his wife, Charlotte, and children, Deborah Carol Kennedy and husband, Don; Sheila Crowder McBride and husband, Jeff; Victoria Mercer Rittiner and husband, David; Oakey Joe Crooks Jr. and Yvonne Crooks Cline.
Surviving grandchildren are Richard Crowder, Elizabeth Crowder Farr, Rachel Mercer, Ellen Rittiner and Henry Rittiner and great-grandchildren, Malcolm Crowder and Madison Farr.
He is also survived by his brothers, Dr. William, James and Jesse Crooks and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
Family will receive visitors at West Cobb Funeral Home on Macland Road in Marietta, GA today, September 12, 2010 from 2- 4 and 6-8 p.m.
Funeral will be held at Macland Baptist Church at 3732 Macland Road, Powder Springs, GA on Monday, September 13, 2010 at 2 p.m. The Rev. Dr. Richard Walker will be officiating.
Interment will follow at Cheatham Hill Cemetery in Marietta, GA.
