Birdie Lee Gann Welch, 89, of Flat Top Mountain passed away at home on Saturday, October 6, 2007. She was born July 8, 1918, to the late Nanny and Claude Gann. She attended Flat Top Independent Church; she was a graduate of Soddy-Daisy High School, class of 1940.
She was preceded in death by her sister, Ruth Gann; two brothers, Ernest and Lewis Gann; granddaughter, Cindy Clift; and her first husband, William Clift, who was killed in action during WWII.
She is survived by her husband of 59 years, Elmer Welch, three sons, Robert (Lorraine) Clift, of Trenton, Georgia, Homer (Delores) Welch, of Flat Top, and Eugene (Janice) Welch, of Soddy-Daisy; four daughters, Pat (Terry) Healy of Flat Top, Mary (Alan) Swaney, of Ringgold, Georgia, Faynette (Anthony) Grayson, of Whitwell, Marlene (Hargus) Reed of Dayton; 10 grandchildren; 12 great-grand children, 2 great-great grandchildren; two sisters, Marietta (Ell) McWilliams, Geraldine (Raymond) Swanson, both of Flat Top; several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be conducted at 11:00 A.M., Tuesday, October 9, 2007, in the funeral home chapel with Rev. Mark Harwood officiating. Interment will follow in Bowman Cemetery. Family will receive friends from 2-9 P.M. Monday at the funeral home. Condolences and memories may be shared at www.williamsonandsons.com.
