Charles Edward “Shag” Rogers, 84, of Dayton, passed away on Monday, October 31, 2016 at his residence. A native of Daisy, Tennessee he lived in Dayton since 1988. Charlie was a member of Garrison Baptist Church. He served his country in the U.S. Navy on the U.S.S. Essex and was a veteran of the Korean War. Charlie was in the car business for over 60 years and was the owner/operator of Charlie Rogers Ford Dealership in Dayton. He loved the game of basketball playing up till his death. Charlie was a member of the Daisy High School State Championship Team and the Senior Olympics Gold Medal Teams multiple times. He also held a private air pilot license. Preceding him in death were his brothers, Tommy Rogers and Lesley Rogers and sisters, Lula Conner and Gertrude Rogers.
Survivors include his loving wife of 63 years, Jimmie Ruth Patterson Rogers; son and daughter–in-law, Douglas Price Rogers and Angela Smith Rogers; daughter and son-in-law, Charla Michelle Ellis and Keith David Ellis; grandchildren, Amanda Michelle Golden and her spouse, Samuel Golden and Ashley Elizabeth Bowery and her spouse, Curtis Bowery; great grandchild, Samuel Ellis Golden and numerous nieces and nephews.
Services will be held on Thursday, November 3, 2016 at 12:00 p.m. in the funeral home chapel with Rev. Mike Breeden and the Honorable Judge Clarence Shattuck officiating. Burial will follow at the National Cemetery. Visitation is Wednesday from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. and Thursday from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers memorial contributions can be made to the Rees Skillern Cancer Center at Memorial Hospital.
