David Vance (Van) Martin, 71, son of Nelson and Geraldine Martin, passed away Monday afternoon, November 11, 2019.
A Sale Creek, Tennessee, native, Van graduated from Red Bank High School in Chattanooga before attending Middle Tennessee State University as an undergraduate student. While at MTSU, he served as student body president. After earning a Doctor of Jurisprudence degree from the University of Tennessee, he practiced law for five decades, primarily in Knoxville, as a member of the Tennessee Bar Association. An active church and community member, Van is survived by his wife of 50 years, Regina Allen Martin (Gallatin, TN); older brother, Randy Martin (Ashland, KY); daughters, Laura Shannon (Lenoir City, TN) and Sarah Martin (Louisville, KY); sons, David and John (Chattanooga, TN); and two grandchildren, Gabriel and Eva Shannon. Two memorial services will be held for Van. The first will take place on Sunday, November 17 (4 p.m. EST, with a receiving of friends beginning at 3 p.m.) at Calvary Baptist Church, 3200 Kingston Pike in Knoxville, Tennessee with Dr. Dan Riley officiating. The second will be at First Baptist Church Gallatin, 205 East Main Street in Gallatin, Tennessee, on Sunday, November 24 (4 p.m. CST with a receiving of friends beginning at 3 p.m.) with Dr. Travis Fleming officiating. Van will then be laid to rest with his family in Sale Creek.
