Wayne K. Vandergriff, 72, passed away peacefully while surrounded by his family, Thursday, January 15, 2015.
Wayne was a lifelong resident of Hixson and attended New Salem Baptist Church. He was employed for many years at Benton Packing House in Hixson and Chattanooga Glass Company. He retired from Food Lion Grocery, where he worked as a butcher. He was an avid hunter, fisherman and was a devoted, dedicated and loving husband, daddy, papa and great papaw.
He was preceded in death by his son, David Vandergriff, parents, Simmie and Margaret Vandergriff, brother, George Vandergriff, and nephew, Joey Rutherford.
He is survived by a loving wife of 52 years, Ramona Vandergriff; children, Cathy (William) Loftis, Ken (JoAnne) Vandergriff; grandchildren, Chad (Natalie) Crowe, Heather (Jarrod) Wilson, Nicki (John) Sisk and Cara (Mike) Richman; great grandchildren, Anslie Crowe, Jack and Rose Sisk; siblings, Alice (Edwin) Conley, Jean (Jim) Denton, Shirley Coffelt, Johnny Vandergirff and Beverly (Ricky) Rutherford; and several nieces and nephews. Acknowledged loved ones include Paul Thomas and Anthony Johnston.
Funeral Services will be held at 2 PM Sunday, January 18, 2015 at Legacy Funeral Home, with pastors Ted Painter, Alan Rogers and Chris Rutherford officiating. Pallbearers will be Chad Crowe, William Loftis, John Sisk, Mike Richman, Rick Rutherford, Richard Rutherford, Paul Thomas and Anthony Johnston. Burial will follow at Hixson Cemetery. The family will receive friends from noon to 2 PM and 4 PM to 8 PM Saturday, January 17, 2015, and Sunday from noon till the funeral service at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to New Salem Baptist Church, 9806 Dallas Hollow Road, Soddy Daisy, and Pet Placement Center, 5975 Dayton Blvd, Chattanooga.
